History of Church of Our Savior, MCC

Church of Our Savior, MCC began in the fall of 1990 as a satellite extension of the Church of the Holy Spirit, now known as the Sunshine Cathedral, in Fort Lauderdale. This initiative aimed to accommodate worshippers from north Broward and south Palm Beach counties. The first service was held in a rented space in Boca Raton, and the church was officially chartered the following year.

Rev. John F. Jacobs served as the founding pastor until 1996. Under his leadership, the membership grew to about 125 members in the first five years. During this time, the church actively engaged with the community by developing an outreach program to feed the hungry and homeless, participating in PRIDE events, and hosting meetings for those living with AIDS and various self-help groups. Two religious services were held each Sunday—one traditional and one contemporary.

In 1996, Rev. Tyrone Sweeting was chosen as the new pastor. A year later, under his leadership and with a $100,000 bequest from a church member, Church of Our Savior purchased a former Pizza Hut. With the help of church members and friends, the restaurant was transformed into a beautiful sanctuary with stained glass windows, which remains the church's home today.

In 2022, Rev. Tony Viglione became our permanent pastor. True to the teachings of Jesus Christ and welcoming all who seek a relationship with God, Church of Our Savior, MCC continues to reach out to the community, helping those in need and developing synergistic relationships to improve daily life for all of God’s people.
